Skiing in Livigno

General information

Livigno a (tax-free) ski area is on the boarder of Italy and Switzerland, 40 kms from Bormio.  Livigno is one of the largest and highest ski areas in the region. As such a large area, it came from humble beginnings as a series of three small villages along short stretch of road. Nowadays, the village of Livigno is quaint with streets lined with charming old buildings. The village is known for the extreme cold, so don’t forget to back your thermals! It is so cold in the area that it has been named “Piccolo Tibet” by the locals. There is no need to worry too much about the cold as there are plenty of bars where can warm up. Not to mention the pizza and pasta… The prices in Livigno are fair, when it comes to restaurants and bars. There are also over 200 shops where you can take advantage of the “tax-free” stores.

The ski resort has lots to offer for both novice and experienced skiers/snowboarders.  There is a half pipe at Mottolino as well as a snow park for the snowboarders among us. Cross-country skiers and hikers can enjoy themselves here too!
