Avoriaz

Avoriaz ski holidays are one of the most popular winter breaks in all of France. Due to its high altitude and car free village, skiing in Avoriaz offers mostly ski-in, ski-out accommodations throughout the winter. The architecture is beautiful with many buildings using a lot of wood to create a rustic, traditional alpine ambience. Although the village is car free, there are still plenty of ways to quickly get around, one of which being the charming horse sleighs dotted around the village.

Local transport is only included in the accommodations: Résidence Antarès, Résidence Atria and Résidence Electra. The shuttle bus runs daily from 08:00 - 19:00.

The Slopes

Avoriaz ski holidays are known for being a great for both beginners and young children. Skiing in Avoriaz offers around 77km of pistes, however with the full Les Portes du Soliel lift pass you have access to over 650km. Les Porte du Soleil is home to a number of other famous French resorts including Morzine, Châtel and Les Gets. With the full lift pass it is even possible to ski all the way to Switzerland!

The Resort

Whilst remaining popular among families, skiing in Avoriaz also offers a fantastic après-ski scene. There are many renowned restaurants and lively bars including Shooters and The Place. Aside from skiing in Avoriaz, there are plenty of fun options to keep busy. Aquariaz is considered “a water paradise”, it has a number of pools, rapids, a rope swing and much more. There is also a cinema, a theatre and snow huskies within the region.

Skiing in Avoriaz

Ski holidays in Avoriaz take place in “Les Portes du Soleil” ski region and consists of the two villages Avoriaz and Morzine. Skiing in Avoriaz offers 79km of slopes with options for ever level of skier and snowboarder, from beginner to advanced. For beginners on a ski holiday in Avoriaz there are plenty of gentle and easy-to-master slopes and for the dare devils, there is the famous Wall of Avoriaz, considered one of the most difficult pistes to ride in the area. For advanced skiers, skiing in Avoriaz might not be enough. You can always upgrade your lift pass to the bigger area of Les Portes du Soleil where you will have access to 650km of slopes. Due to the high altitude, a ski holiday in Avoriaz offers perfect snow conditions from December until April.

Service charge (tip) in restaurants and bars :

Mobile:

A UK mobile phone should work in France. The setup for this may differ per provider, so it is best to inquire about this before hand.

Safety on the slopes:

In France, wearing a helmet is not mandatory but recommended (especially for children). In ski classes (for all ages), it is often compulsory.

Travel documents:

You must be in possession of a valid passport in order to travel to France.

Food and Drinks:

Cheese, croissants, baguettes and wine! It is possible to drink tap water.

Opening hours:

As a general rule, the shops are open on Monday/Friday from 09:00 to 19:00. However, some shops may close over lunchtime. On Sunday and Monday, a selection of shops are closed. Some supermarkets are open on Sunday mornings.

Travelling by car:
Most motorways in France require you to pay a toll fee. The Pas Piccolo San Bernardo is closed the whole winter (November - June). Always check the locat weather reports before departing.

In some cities and towns it is obligaroty to have a "environmentsl sticker". It is not possible to buy these stickers en route. You will have to order them online before you leave home. French authorities advise you to print out the form and the confirmation of the sticker if it does not arrive at your home in time. You can find the form on:

Flight information

You fly with easyJet or Jet2 to Geneva. This flight takes approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes. Meals and drinks are not included during the flight.

Transfer

In the booking steps it is possible to book a transfer. If you book a transfer via Sunweb, it will be a shared transfer to and from the resort. Lift pass, lessons and ski/board hire

An Avoriaz ski pass is included in the tour price.

You can see the surcharges and discounts for extending your ski pass or no ski pass in step 1 (preferences) of the booking process. Ski passes for children up to and including 4 years old are free. If you are entitled to this free ski pass, choose 'no ski pass' when booking. You can pick up the free ski pass onsite by showing your proof of identity.

Any surcharges and discounts are only valid upon booking. Other rates are applied locally. It is not possible to redeem the ski pass on another day onsite. An extension of the ski pass can often be booked as an extra; you will find the price for this further into the booking steps. The discount for “no ski pass” can also be found in the booking process.

This equipment is ideal for beginners and intermediate skiers and snowboarders. The equipment is particularly manoeuvrable, so it makes turning and braking easy. Parallel skiing is also possible with these skis.

Silver

This is ideal equipment for intermediate skiers and snowboarders. The equipment is manoeuvrable and suitable for cutting corners sharply. Even at high speeds, these skis provide great performance.

Gold

These skis and snowboards are made of high-quality material and are perfect for experienced skiers. They can also be used by skiers who have mastered parallel skiing. This comfortable equipment is suitable for all track types and snow conditions.

Diamond

These are high performance skis and snowboards with the latest technology and are suitable for the most experienced skiers.
