Skiing in Samoëns

General information

Like many French ski villages, Samoëns consists of two areas. The first is the authentic, traditional village that has many old buildings and chalets. The second is Samoëns 1600, which is located at a higher altitude and has more modern hotels and apartments. Samoëns 1600 also has better access to the ski lifts. The authentic village is the only ski holiday destination that has the official status of "Monument Historique".

Skiing in Samoëns

Samoëns is part of the extensive Les Grand Massif ski area. Overall this area has over 265km of ski slopes. It also includes the famous French resorts of Flaine, Morillon and Les Carroz d’Araches. It is a perfect area for beginner to intermediate skiers/snowboarders. The highest point of Les Grand Massif is approximately 2500m, making it a fairly snow sure destination through the whole of the winter season.

The Resort

Samoëns has a fantastic assortment of bars and restaurant. For cross country skiers there is approximately 50km of different tracks available. For non skiers there are plenty of different activities available. This includes a weekly market, dog sledding, snow shoe walks, ice skating, a public spa area and a cinema.
