The Via Lattea (Milky Way) is a lovely area on the boarder of the Italian and French Alps. It is located 70 km (44 miles) west of Turin and there are 400 km (250 miles) of skiable pistes. As it lies on the border of France with Italy, the coffee is good everywhere and the pizza/pasta is delicious and authentic. There are approx. 88 lifts, with the lowest starting at 1350m in the service village of Cesana Torinese; the highest point is Mont Motta in the Sestriere ski area, at 2800m. There are regular zero-fare bus services between the resorts. Sunweb has some fantastic optins in Montgenevre. The ski area offers such a large amount of runs to suit all tastes. Rolling “blue hills” to steep “black walls” there are plenty of options for all skiers to feel at home. For the real fanatics, there are also the extremely challenging pistes of Motta and good off-piste opportunities in the Antifeatro.
